Hello! I am back with a video showing how to create metallic effects with stencils. I have a few different techniques and cards to share. I am also participating in a very special blog hop!

So much of cardmaking is focused on stamping and die cutting… and I think we often overlook stencils. But stencils are inexpensive and can be used in many ways to create fun backgrounds. Today I show how you can use stencils to create faux metal looks.

The first technique I show in the video is to use a stencil to make an impress (aka dry embossed image) on metallic cardstock. I used the Altenew Skylight Stencil (SSS | ALT) along with a Spellbinders Embossing Mat and my Sizzix Big Shot Express to create a textured background on matte silver cardstock. This makes such a gorgeous faux metal background!

At the center, I added a snowflake I created with the Altenew Layered Snowflakes Dies (SSS | ALT), Simon Says Stamp Glitter Cardstock, and an Altenew Starry Night Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) sentiment.

You can also create a faux metal background by heat embossing over a stencil. Here I applied VersaMark Ink with an Ink Blending Tool over an Altenew Sunburst Stencil (SSS |ALT) onto Altenew Gold Foil Cardstock. You can see the two-tone gold look you get…

I added a flower I created with the Altenew Handpicked Bouquet Stamp Set (SSS | ALT) and a sentiment from the Altenew Leaf Canopy Stamp Set (SSS | ALT).

You can also created dimensional metallic texture with stencils. For this card, I applied Ranger Texture Paste over an Altenew Flowing Heart Stencil (SSS | ALT) onto Neenah Metallic Cardstock . I then added WOW Midas Touch Embossing Powder and heat set it. I love all that texture…

I also added a stacked Altenew Simply Hello Die (SSS | ALT) and a sentiment strip created with the Altenew Dearest Friend Stamp Set (SSS |ALT).

My last card uses several faux metal techniques. For the background, I applied Ranger Texture Paste over an Altenew Feeling Dotty Stencil (SSS | ALT) onto white cardstock. I then added Altenew Golden Peach Embossing Powder (SSS | ALT) and heat set it. To give it even more shine… I added Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Polish.

I covered lots of Altenew Layered Floral Element Die Cuts (SSS | ALT) with Gold, Silver, and Golden Peach embossing powder. I arranged them on a white piece along with an Altenew Wildflower Garden (SSS | ALT). Finally, I added an Altenew Fine Frames Cover Die Cut (SSS | ALT) covered with silver embossing.

I love stencils! I have a bunch of them & I love to use them. I don’t have any for Christmas though. Mine are more spring & summer, tulips, butterflies, stuff like that. I love what you did with the stencils though & I am going to use mine a whole lot more. I haven’t embossed in quite a while but I remember the first time I saw someone do it I was amazed! I am also amazed at your embossing. It’s so sparkly & looks like Christmas on the one Christmas snowflake you did. The rest would be good for any time of the year. I have to emboss more again & I have to watch your video.
Thanks for showing us your beautiful embossed cards & for giving us the chance to win something. It is the season for giving, isn’t it?
